Education Board Objectives
The basic objectives of this board are to plan and administer the total educational program for the congregation. The board will determine the policies, select personnel for the various agencies, provide the necessary means and facilities for the agencies, and direct and supervise the educational program of the congregation.

Included areas are the Christian Resource Center (CRC), Audlt Bible study, Sunday School, Childcare, Preschool and scholarships available to congregational members.

Christian Education at First Lutheran:
Individuals have many opportunities for Christian learning. For adults there is a bible class between services each Sunday throughout the year, Lifelight (a book by book or topical study of the Bible) is available in the Fall and Spring on Sundays afternoons, Tuesdays in the morning and Thursday evenings. There is a Thursday morning mens breakfast at Paradise Falls and periodically a Faith Renewal class is offered. For the youth we have Sundayschool that takes place between services on Sundays A Childcare and a Preschool that are strongly enriched by their Christian based instruction.

First Lutheran Financial Aid Programs and Guidelines
First Lutheran Church has three different scholarships available for any members of the congregation. A copy of the application form is located at:

flcmissoula.org/webpages/financialaidapp.pdf

The Board of Education is the trustee for these funds. A copy of the application is on this web site under the Education tab. This application is due to the Board of Education prior to April 30 if the funds are needed in the fall

The Walter and Dena Becker Scholarship Fund is administered by the Lutheran Community Foundation. This application is due before April 30.

The Balko Scholarship Fund

This fund is for individuals pursuing Pastorial duties.

There are also two other funds supported by the congregation. One is for seminary students and the other is for individuals pursuing professional church work. The allotment ammounts are based on the number of applicants and the amount of interest gained in the past year on the account.

The applicant must be a congregation member enrolled in a college or seminary of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church. The student must be studying to become a Minister or Professional Church Worker.

2) The applicant may be in any undergraduate year of school with the exception of a seminary student in his year of Vicarage. This exception will be made because Vicars are paid during this year. This scholarship is not available for post-graduate study.

3) The applicant must make an annual formal application by April 30 in order to be considered for the coming school year. Students beginning their enrollment at mid-year should submit their applications 3 months prior to the start of the term.

4) Student Aid Funds are to be made available to successful applicants in increments determined by the Board. These funds will then be sent directly to the school’s financial aid department.

5) The Board of Education is responsible for administration of the Fund and shall determine the amount to be dispersed from the Fund each year.

6) Should the applicant withdraw from classes or be expelled for any reason before the end of the school year, the student will be required to return a percentage of the award. The amount will be based on 1/9th of the total for each month of the school year not attended. Should the applicant change to a course of study that does not fulfil the guidelines described, the above shall also apply.

7) Scholarship recipients must maintain a 2.00 grade point average in order to remain eligible.
